Introducing the Big Bang Space Pepper, Hangjiao 9 (HJ9), Capsicum annuum, Scoville units: 000 to 500 SHU. Hangjiao means space pepper in Chinese and HJ stands for Hangjiao, which was the name of the space program adopted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Since 1987, 10 varieties of pepper have been sent into space by Jiang Xingcun. This Bang Space Pepper HJ9 is the 9th in a series of ten and comes from China, but you can tell they’re from outer space! The fruits become very long and twisted, almost 30cm long. The pods start out green, then turn red when fully ripe. Plants can reach 1m in height and produce many peppers per plant. The pods have a lovely sweet flavor when fresh with a very good mild crunch that is very satisfying, but some peppers can be pungent! These make an excellent fresh pepper with tasty, crunchy, sweet to mild peppers! Isolated seeds
