Description
The lazzaretto pepper, related to the cayenne pepper, is a local variety from Abruzzo. Thin and elongated, it takes on a beautiful chocolate color when ripe. It is relatively mild, with a heat of 20,000 SHU, fresh-flavored and quite pronounced. In its native region, it is often added to tomato pasta sauces and shellfish juices.
